A dystopian retelling of Bertold Brecht’s classic play Threepenny Opera, the Dollar Opera sees gangster Macheath dodge his way through the flooding and homeless streets of Sydney, escaping the wrath of the law, and the firm hand of Mr. Peachum, who want to catch him and charge him for his crimes. This adaptation for a young Australian audience leans into the vulgarity of the original text, rewriting it in our own Australian jargon.
